Gender Equality Development Facility

The Gender Equality Development Facility (GEDF) is a funding mechanism established by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). The GEDF is one of three facilities managed through the Participatory Development Program.

To this end, the GEDF will support promising organizations working in geographic and programming areas that support and strengthen CIDA's program in Egypt.

GEDF provides capacity development and financial support for organizations and activities designed to directly address gender equality issues using rights based approaches. The GEDF worked with supported organizations to enhance capacities in gender equality programming that aims to advance women's equal participation with men as decision maker; support women and girls in the realization of their full human rights; and reduce gender inequalities in access to and control over the resources and benefits of development.

During the course of the project, the GEDF and the association, foundation or network will work together to develop or strengthen technical skills for the promotion of gender equality; strengthen knowledge and skills to apply new rights-based approaches to project activities; and build linkages and collaborative relationships with other organizations-including those in government, where appropriate-in order to more effectively represent their community.

The GEDF will also assist associations, foundations or networks strengthen their internal organizational systems and processes. GEDF financial and capacity development support will be delivered with the ultimate goal of helping associations, foundations and networks become more effective in their work through building both advanced program delivery skills and addressing internal organizational needs.
